The amount of plastic waste is increasing from year to year. Biodegradable packaging is therefore becoming increasingly important, and not only in the food industry. Yet there are already many sustainable packaging alternatives – such as bio-film made from macroalgae. Since this process is very time-consuming and expensive, Ludwig Schmidtchen, a doctoral student, has developed a cheaper and faster manufacturing process for this film. He received help from Tietjen.

The full decarbonization of our energy supply to meet the 2030 climate targets requires diversification of energy sources while maintaining or improving security of supply. Sustainable wood energy is the only renewable, on-demand, baseload partner technology of photovoltaics and wind energy at power plant scale. Wood pellet fuel is already available today, is in sufficient supply in the long term through a global market, and can thus secure our energy supply and grid stability for tomorrow.

The use of biomass or waste-based substitute fuels in coal-fired power plants is an important building block for climate-friendly energy production. Grinding modules by Tietjen have been used for many years to treat production wastes from the wood-processing industry.

Good grinding depends on the technical design of the hammer mill itself and on the aspiration of the mill. In addition, the feeding of the hammer mill also plays an important role. The grinding plant can only be operated efficiently with optimum feeding and the appropriate dosing of the input material. Tietjen offers three options of feeding systems with the air-gravity separator (AGS series), the drum feeder (DA series) and the vibratory feeder (R series).

As part of a cooperation agreement with NEUMANN & ESSER Process Technology GmbH (NEA), Tietjen Verfahrenstechnik GmbH will assume responsibility for global sales of the NEA impact classifier mill under the name ‘TICM’ (Tietjen Impact Classifier Mill).

Last year, Tietjen was looking for a new, modern ‘Industry 4.0’ control unit component, particularly one that offers features such as a remote maintenance. JUMO had a product in its portfolio that matched all these requirements – the JUMO TCU 96. With the additional web application, Tietjen Verfahrenstechnik is able to model a complete and sophisticated remote maintenance concept.

There are two new faces at Tietjen. When training started officially on 3 August 2020, Annika Mohr and Janne Tim Löw began their training with us. To both, we would like to extend a warm welcome to Tietjen.

In Germany alone, about 12 million tonnes of food go to waste each year. From an energy point of view, this food waste is very valuable, as biowaste can be made into sustainable energy in biogas plants and then fed into our electricity and district heating grids. We will show you how such biowaste can be optimally recycled today with the help of state-of-the-art grinding and separation technologies.

From production employee to operations manager: In his 42 years at Tietjen, Mr Peter Wagner had not just experienced many things, but also been involved in many key innovations right from the start. After training as a mechanical engineer, he started at Tietjen at a time when the company had just twelve members of staff. During his rise to operations manager he has achieved a great deal along the way, and Mr Wagner is today still responsible for numerous staff and company activities, and supports Tietjen wherever he can.

On 30 October 2019, we held our first seminar with our new sales partner, Tim Tripp, in Canada. It revolved entirely around grinding techniques for pet food, and the differences between Europe and North America. The event was rounded off by presentations about alternative grinding concepts by our CEO Thomas Runde and another presentation about explosion protection by Dirk Gering and Tim Tripp.

To expand their feed production capacity in the spring of 2019, a new GDL 25 and crossyoke plansifter was commissioned at AFGRI Animal Feeds near Johannesburg. With a production capacity of around 1 million tonnes a year, the company is one of South Africa’s leading pet food manufacturers.

For many companies, explosion protection is a matter to be taken seriously. Businesses that produce cereal, wood or animal feed products are particularly affected. Thanks to our in-house research and development of pressure release systems, we have played a role in ensuring that systems are safer today. All our mills are explosion-proof and resistant to flame puncture. They have an EC declaration of compliance in accordance with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.
