Tietjen receives ERDF and LPW funding
Short overview:
- What is the funding program?
- What funding does Tietjen receive
- What does Tietjen receive funding for
Funding program
The state of Schleswig-Holstein has launched its own framework funding programme for both investment and non-investment projects by municipal bodies, non-profit organizations and commercial companies, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the joint federal-state task “Improvement of the regional economic structure” (GRW). The state program Economy in the 2021 – 2027 funding period builds on its successful predecessor program, the state program Economy 2014-2020.
Projects
For the practical implementation of Tietjen’s patent for improving fine grinding with a hammer mill in combination with a rising classifier and the development of a hammer mill required for this, Tietjen is receiving funding from the State Program for the Economy (LPW) with pro rata co-financing from the European Regional Economic Structure Fund (ERDF).
The aim of the project is to further develop the hammer mill technology and to combine the advantages of individual mill types in a single one, so that downtimes are minimized, hygiene increased, energy consumption reduced and production efficiency optimized. At the same time, the range of applications for the robust and economical hammer mill technology is to be expanded and tested in practice by combining the hammer mill with a rising classifier. In this way, Tietjen aims to create an energy-efficient and economical solution in the future to achieve the required fineness for the production of fish feed and foodstuffs of less than 250 micrometers with at least 95% of the particles.

Tietjen News about substrate treatment for biogas plants
Short overview:
- New product: Biomass Shredder BMS
- New product: Screw press PRS
- Article about the purity of depackaging with our DRM
Biomass Shredder BMS
Biogas plants need a reliable feed for high-performance operation. At the same time, biogas plants are getting bigger and bigger. This is where the new biomass shredder BMS from Tietjen comes in. The vertical Biomass Shredder BMS processes up to 15 tons of biomass per hour, making it one of the highest throughput grinders on the market. The Biomass Shredder BMS helps to ensure that any large volume biogas plant feeding process is extremely reliable and constant, even with difficult substrates. An increase in biogas production combined with higher fermenter efficiency (less agitation and floating layers) is the positive consequence of all BMS benefits.
Screw Press PRS
Tietjen Verfahrenstechnik GmbH presents its press screw PRS for dewatering packaging material or sludge. This dewatering screw convinces with its robust design, which makes it one of the most maintenance-friendly and blockage-insensitive on the market.
In the application, the substrate is conveyed into the screw press PRS and compressed there: The material is compressed and pressed against the press flaps, adhering organics and liquids are discharged through screens. In the “FoodWaste application”, the organic material can then be used for biogas production, while the dewatered and compressed packaging material is cheaper to dispose of.
The PRS can be used separately or in combination with our DRM depackaging machine, which separates organics and packaging from packaged food waste. The packaging is then dewatered by the PRS.
Bioenergy Insight publishes article about our depackaging machine DRM
Tietjen Verfahrenstechnik GmbH is a German manufacturer of depackaging, separating and shredding equipment for organic waste. Its DRM is well established and runs in the plants of leading bio-waste and food waste disposal companies in Germany and worldwide. Tietjen understands the challenges of depackaging processes and knows about the key factors such as purity, water consumption and overall efficiency….

66 years of innovation and expertise: We celebrate our anniversary
Short overview
66 years of Tietjen, 66 years full of innovations, progress and challenges. We look back on 66 eventful years.
From humble beginnings to global presence
In 2025, Tietjen Verfahrenstechnik GmbH celebrates its 66th anniversary. Since its foundation in 1959, the company has developed into one of the world’s leading specialists in grinding technology and substrate preparation machines for biogas plants.
The history of Tietjen began on a farm when company founder Hinrich Tietjen experimented with the preparation of feed for fattening pigs. His son, Dipl.-Ing. Johannes Tietjen, took over the technical development work in 1957 and laid the foundations for today’s company.
Milestones of innovation
Over the decades, Tietjen has continually revolutionised grinding and processing technology.
- 1959: Foundation of Tietjen Maschinen und Mühlenbau
- 1970s: Development of the first GD large chamber hammer mill
- 1980s: Breakthrough on the British market
- 1990s: Introduction of the remote-controlled, fully automatic screen change
- 2000s: Development of machines for substrate preparation for biogas plants
- 2010s: Thomas Runde joins Tietjen as a participating managing director and Konrad Pumpe as an investor
- 2020 Internationalisation and innovation: New developments and internationalisation have ensured a good order book, and the areas of grinding and substrate preparation for biogas plants have been brought into line.
Global reach, local roots
Today, Tietjen serves customers all over the world, particularly in the animal feed, wood and biogas sectors. Despite its international success, the company remains true to its roots and continues to produce at the Hemdingen site in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.
In addition to manufacturing individual machines, Tietjen has also established itself as a system provider for large grinding plants and biowaste treatment plants.
Innovation as the centrepiece
With a team of around 75 employees working, the owner-managed company is constantly on new projects and customised grinding solutions. The latest developments include
- Biomass shredder BMS for substrate processing for biogas plants
- Hammer mill FD 32 Pro: developed for high throughput and fine grinding, optimised for the requirements of pet food and fish feed production.
A look into the future
As a technical leader in grinding technology and biomass processing, Tietjen remains true to its motto: “We are great at making biomass small”. With 66 years of experience and an unbroken spirit of innovation, Tietjen is ideally equipped for the challenges ahead and looks to the future with great optimism.
We would like to thank our customers, partners and employees for 66 years of trust and look forward to writing the next chapters of our success story together.
