Solution: Integration of a DRM into an existing plant for biogas production
Heinfelder Bioenergie GmbH & Co. KG is a certified waste management company specializing in animal by-products and biowaste. In addition to waste disposal, the company operates biogas plants, drying plants for industrial sludge, transport logistics, an industrial service and offers consulting and operational management for biogas plants.The depackaging machine DRM has been successfully in operation at the Friesoythe site near Oldenburg since May 2021. It processes waste ranging from “clean” bio-waste with a low foreign matter content to heavily packed waste with a high foreign matter content.The bio-waste to be processed is fed into a collection bunker via an automatic tipping station for waste bins, via the unloading of truck containers or via unloading with the aid of forklifts, and from there the waste is fed into the DRM via screw conveyors. This biowaste, which is highly variable in composition and contaminated with foreign matter, is separated into pure organic and inorganic fractions using the DRM’s operating principle at a high throughput of approximately 200 tons of waste per day.The resulting “clean” organic fermentation substrate is used by Heinfelder Bioenergie to produce biogas. The second product stream, the separated foreign matter stream, has a low moisture content due to the operation of the DRM and separates almost no biomass. This also minimizes the cost of subsequent disposal by incineration.Dr. Arndt von der Lage, Managing Director of Heinfelder Bioenergie, is satisfied: “The DRM could be easily integrated into an existing plant and impresses with its robust design and fail-safe, economical operation.“After only a short time, a good partnership has developed between Heinfelder Bioenergie and Tietjen, so that further optimization ideas can be implemented together. Further projects are planned for the future to make the waste treatment process as effective and efficient as possible.

Wood pellets are a climate-neutral fuel derived from biomass. Ideally, pellets do not contain chemical binders and have a high energy density. Two kilograms of wood pellets are roughly equivalent to the efficiency of one litre of heating oil. Pellets are a good way to move away from dependence on fossil fuels. Tietjen’s hammer mills optimally crush wood for the pellet mill.
